In the Office of Student Financial Services, Financial Aid, the primary responsibility of the Assistant Director, Financial Aid position is to play an important role of providing strategic leadership and administrative guidance, coordination, and implementation for the Financial Aid office at a large, innovative public university that is committed to student success. This position will require knowledge in all areas of financial aid but focuses on grants and scholarships. This person will oversee the operations of the Financial Aid office (budget, personnel, information, policies, reports, and procedures). Specific responsibilities also include working collaboratively with the Director of Financial Aid, the Enrollment Management Group, Student Financial Services and University staff in pursuit of student success initiatives.

Oversee the administration, compliance, and reconciliation of state-funded financial aid programs Responsible for accurate awarding, reporting, and disbursement of all scholarships, grants and state aid, in accordance with state regulations, institutional policies, and federal guidelines. Review maintenance of financial aid over-awards, Title IV refunding, external audit items and oversee special projects. Ability to read, analyze and interpret identified issues with Banner System, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Develop staff through continuous training and mentoring opportunities resulting in empowerment of staff to responsibly handle Financial Aid issues and concerns. Serve as the subject matter expert for all grants, scholarships, and state aid programs. Coordinate the research, development, and maintenance of new programs, grants and funding proposals. Assist the Director/Associate Director with policy development and operational planning. Interpret and apply federal and state statutes, regulations, and program guidance. Prepare and submit required state reports, certifications, and reconciliations accurately and on time. Support audits, program reviews, and compliance inquiries related to state aid. Maintain documentation and internal controls to ensure regulatory compliance. Serve as liaison between Student Financial Aid office and other associated offices or entities within/outside the university.

Bachelor’s degree and three-five years of supervisory/management experience, and two-three years of professional higher education work experience
Preferred Hiring Qualifications:
Knowledge of FERPA and Enrollment & Registration.
Working knowledge of integrated student record data systems, such as Banner.
Collaborative, energetic and resourceful work style.
Excellent oral and written communication and conflict-resolution skills.
Exceptional analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and supervisory skills.
Ability to multi-task; pay attention to detail; and exhibit excellent customer service skills.
Five years of management experience in financial aid or state aid office.
Salary offers will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications in relation to the Minimum Hiring Standards. Candidates earlier in their careers are typically offered salaries closer to the minimum of the hiring range, while those with more advanced or relevant experience may be considered for compensation at or above the hiring range.
