Retail Security Guard

An armed response company in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal requires a Retail Security Guard to respond to alarm activations and emergency calls. You will conduct rapid response patrols, investigate suspicious activity, and liaise with law enforcement when necessary. A valid firearm competency certificate and advanced driving skills are essential.ResponsibilitiesConduct regular patrols of the assigned premises on foot or by vehicle, checking for security breaches, hazards, and suspicious activity.Provide excellent customer service to clients, tenants, and visitors while maintaining a firm and professional security presence.Monitor CCTV camera feeds in real time from a control room, identifying and responding to any unusual or suspicious activity.Supervise and coordinate a team of security officers, managing shift rosters and ensuring all posts are adequately staffed.Write detailed and accurate incident reports describing security events, observations, and actions taken for management review.Respond promptly to alarm activations, investigate the cause, and take appropriate action including escalation to armed response or law enforcement.Control access to buildings and sites by verifying identification, issuing visitor passes, and maintaining an accurate access register.RequirementsThe ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure in emergency or high-stress situations.For armed response roles, a valid firearm competency certificate and experience in handling firearms safely.A minimum of one to two years of experience in the security industry with a proven track record of reliability.A clear criminal record is mandatory and subject to regular review as per PSIRA requirements.A valid driver's licence is required for armed response and patrol positions.Physical fitness and the ability to stand for extended periods, conduct foot patrols, and respond quickly to incidents.QualificationsPSIRA Grade A or B Registration
