Retail Security Guard

Our client, a retail centre in Cape Town, Western Cape, is looking for a Retail Security Guard to prevent theft and ensure a safe shopping environment. You will patrol the mall, monitor customer behaviour, apprehend shoplifters according to legal procedures, and assist with emergency evacuations. Retail security experience is preferred.

Responsibilities Assist with emergency procedures including fire evacuations, medical emergencies, and crisis situations according to established protocols. Supervise and coordinate a team of security officers, managing shift rosters and ensuring all posts are adequately staffed. Monitor CCTV camera feeds in real time from a control room, identifying and responding to any unusual or suspicious activity. Control access to buildings and sites by verifying identification, issuing visitor passes, and maintaining an accurate access register. Perform regular checks of security equipment including alarms, cameras, radios, and access control systems to ensure functionality. Write detailed and accurate incident reports describing security events, observations, and actions taken for management review. Respond promptly to alarm activations, investigate the cause, and take appropriate action including escalation to armed response or law enforcement.

Requirements For armed response roles, a valid firearm competency certificate and experience in handling firearms safely. Physical fitness and the ability to stand for extended periods, conduct foot patrols, and respond quickly to incidents. A valid driver's licence is required for armed response and patrol positions. Good written and verbal communication skills to write reports and interact professionally with clients and the public. A clear criminal record is mandatory and subject to regular review as per PSIRA requirements.
