Summary Continued
For the first 8 weeks, apprentices work onsite in production departments for immediate immersion into the shipyard’s working environment and activities. At the end of 8 weeks, apprentices will report to the Training Academy to begin classroom training and hands-on lessons to obtain their certifications. Upon completion at the Training Academy, apprentices rejoin production to begin work on ship construction. All apprentices are required to attend and complete a mix of classroom and online training throughout the duration of the program.

Work in accordance with Hanwha Philly Shipyard’s CORE principlesEnsure that all HPSI safety procedures, rules and regulations are followed and metWear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)Must be able to obtain weld certifications as specified for the welder, shipbuilder and/or outfitter positionLearn cutting and grinding principles and techniquesAttend all assigned instructor-led and online-assigned Related Technical Training (RTI) coursesPerform other related duties as required and assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education And Experience
High School Degree or GED Equivalent
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke. Work may be carried on indoors or outdoors, and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.
Hanwha Philly Shipyard is a TOBACCO FREE facility.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. A range of motion sufficient to perform general lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, climbing, working at heights, extended walking or standing, etc. is required. Employment in this position is contingent upon passing the medical examination. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
All apprentices must be clean-shaven for respirator fit test and use.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is an on-site, full-time, safety-sensitive position. Standard days and hours of work vary by department, days and hours determined by department schedules.
